Random Pattern Bottle Opener

This bottle opener was hand-forged from a high layer count random pattern damascus billet. It is roughly 3 1/2″ long, roughly 1 3/4″ wide at the business end and weighs approximately 3.5 oz. This opener is fully heat treated.

I forged the damascus billet from scratch with a combination of hydraulic press and hand hammer, and then hand-hammered the billet into a bottle opener, followed by grinding, heat treating, polishing, etching and re-polishing. I do not re-use damascus stock bought from someone else.

Note 15N20 and 1080 are not stainless steels, so periodic coating with something like mineral oil is standard maintenance – frequency depends on the ‘climate’. This opener was cured in mineral oil and then Renaissance wax was applied on top of that.
