Pattern-welded “Coin” Bottle Opener

This “coin”-style bottle opener started with a staggered C’s pattern of 1080, CruForgeV and 15N20. It is roughly 1 1/2″ diameter, roughly 3/16″ thick and weighs approximately 0.85 oz. This opener was fully heat treated.

I forged the damascus billet from scratch with a combination of hydraulic press and hand hammer, and then hand-hammered the billet into a bottle opener, followed by grinding, heat treatment, polishing, etching and re-polishing. I do not re-use damascus stock bought from someone else.

Note 15N20, 1080 and CruForgeV are not stainless steels, so periodic coating with something like mineral oil is standard maintenance – frequency depends on the ‘climate’. This opener was cured in mineral oil and then Renaissance wax was applied on top of that.
